Revitalized Medvedev Secures Maiden Title in 882 Days

Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev won his first title for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has endured a challenging season, managing just one match at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in specific - caused him dropping out of the top ten and eventually separating with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive win over challenger Moutet.

This represents the player's first title after the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt from that period of the previous year.

The win also means he has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one different events.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters together, so to secure a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, including in that event earlier this year.

The player's retrieving play style and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had caused some to question if his capacity to compete at the top level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform assertively, backed up by an enhanced service.

He came back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Moutet, securing 4 of the concluding five games to take the lead.

The pair swapped breaks in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour championship, took control to force a decider.

Moutet defended four early-game chances in a competitive third set before the Russian broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned victory with a rally at the net area, with Moutet unable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
